Can Bitcoin Reach $1 Million? A Venture Capital Approach to Bitcoin's Future

Could Bitcoin reach $1 million by 2030 or even $43 million by 2050?
Investor Mark Moss built a valuation model that looks beyond Bitcoin's historical price and instead focuses on the markets it could disrupt.
How the Bitcoin Valuation Model Works
Rather than predicting Bitcoin's price from past performance, Moss uses a venture capital approach:
Identify the markets Bitcoin competes with.
Estimate how large those markets could become.
Calculate how much market share Bitcoin might capture.
He argues that Bitcoin competes with traditional stores of wealth, including gold, real estate, stocks, bonds, cash, and collectibles.
A Nearly $1 Quadrillion Market
According to Moss's model, these assets represented approximately $994 trillion in 2025.
He projects that the combined market could grow to:
2030: $1.5 quadrillion
2040: $3 quadrillion
2050: $6 quadrillion
Bitcoin wouldn't need to replace these assets. It would only need to capture a portion of the capital invested in them.
Bitcoin Price Predictions
Moss's model produces the following scenarios:
Year | Bitcoin Market Share | Estimated Bitcoin Price |
2030 | 1.5% | $1 million |
2040 | 8% | $11 million |
2050 | 15% | $43 million |
These are hypothetical projections, not guaranteed outcomes. They depend on assumptions about market growth, adoption, and capital allocation.
The Business Lesson
Don't just predict a price. Understand the market behind it.
Whether evaluating Bitcoin, a startup, or a new business opportunity, ask three questions:
How big is the potential market?
How much of that market could realistically be captured?
What needs to happen for that growth to occur?
A good investment thesis explains the assumptions behind the numbers.
