Two Melbourne founders didn’t “find” success—they tripped into it by trying everything, from SEO and web design to random product experiments. Each attempt taught them what they hated, until the path narrowed into something they couldn’t stop building: a smartphone-mounting empire.

KICKSTARTER: THE PROOF-OF-LIFE STAGE

Their early product, Opener (an iPhone bottle-opener case), was a scrappy Kickstarter guinea pig—built to validate demand and fund production, back when crowdfunding was mysterious and clunky. Opener exploded as an impulse buy, but its real job was bigger: teach them the game.

ENTER QUAD LOCK: THE SLOW-BURN BEASTQuad Lock started as a tougher, riskier dream—secure phone mounts for bikes, then motorbikes, cars, and beyond. Growth wasn’t instant. They had to educate the market, not just sell to it. The turning point? Getting ripped off. Copycats flooded Opener’s market, hammering home two brutal lessons: protect your IP when you can, but invest in brand always.

THEIR BRAND FORMULA:

  • Obsess over the customer, segment by lifestyle.

  • Deliver world-class quality + flawless experience.

  • Stay curious, test fast, ship at 70%, improve forever.

BOTTOM LINE: validation first, branding always, and speed beats perfection every time.
