HOW TO PRICE YOUR CONSULTING SERVICES
Updated: Jan 4

Here’s the core message: consulting fees shouldn’t be a clock-watching exercise. The speaker argues that hourly pricing traps you in small thinking—because it ignores the real engine of a consulting business: value.
Instead of asking, “How long will this take me?” start with, “How much is this problem worth to the client?” Consultants who price by time feel proud charging $100/hour… but that model forgets overhead, marketing costs, lead generation, and the messy reality of running a business. Two hours of work isn’t just two hours—it’s years of skill, plus the cost to find and win that client.
The bold rule of thumb: charge about 10% of the value you create. If you solve a $10,000 problem, your fee might be $1,000. If your work unlocks $100,000, charging $10,000 is fair—and still a great deal for the client.

Even in “non-monetary” niches like wellness or stress coaching, value still exists. Measure the size of the transformation and price accordingly.
Finally, price with your future in mind. If you want more than a solo side hustle—if you want a team, an office, real scale—your pricing must fund that vision today.
Value-based pricing creates confidence, client wins, and a consulting business built to grow.
